Asking the relay.

What your server does while this is down

It carries on. Chores run, watchers watch, receipts are written and the Warden guards, all without us — nothing on your server depends on the relay. What waits is the chat: messages queue on the server and arrive when the relay is back, in order, with a line saying how long it was away.

What this page cannot tell you

Whether the machine is up. This page is served from the same machine as the relay, so a page that does not load at all is the answer to that question: the machine is gone, and the chat is quiet until somebody brings it back. A second machine is planned and not built; until it is, we would rather write that down than have you read a blank page as good news.
